Hi, great to meet you… my name is Gavin James and I’ve been a guitar teacher for the last 7-8 years. I’ve actually been playing the guitar for the last 16 years and first picked up the guitar when I was 16 years old.
It happened by accident. I was studying construction at college when I made friends with a guy named Stuart.
Stuart happened to play the electric guitar and over the next few months, we’d play and jam together although I wasn’t very good at the time.
After buying my first guitar, playing for a few months, I decided to leave college and pursue a career in music. I had found my PASSION and this was definitely something I was interested in.

As you can imagine, my parents were not very happy, especially when I told them I’d dropped out of college and was going to be a ROCK STAR.
But as they saw how dedicated and serious I was about the guitar, they supported me and helped me out with guitar lesson costs etc.
I worked part time in a shop and practiced the guitar between 5-7 hours per day! You could say I was obsessed at the time, and I just wanted to be the best.
Over the next few years I continued my practice schedule, whilst working part time and joined a couple of fantastic bands. We would then tour around the country, and travel back late at night. I was loving it and living my dream.
For some reason, I never became that rock star I wanted to, but as I got a little older and settled down with a girlfriend, I became more grounded and wanted to live in one place rather than touring around the country. I still loved the guitar and was still practicing as much as I could.
One day a friend of my girlfriends asked if I could teach him how to play the guitar, and he’d pay me for my time…
Fantastic I thought. I loved the guitar and loved helping and teaching people so this was the BEST way to earn a bit of income on the side whilst I continued my part time job.
Well after a few guitar lessons I started taking on more students until eventually I was a full time guitar teacher. I was learning even more about the instrument as I taught it and I had also found a passion for teaching.
So, 16 years later… here we are. I’m still teaching and with 8 years under my belt now I’m very grateful for making friends with Stuart all those years ago.
Unfortunately I’ve lost touch with Stuart, but I’d love to get back in touch with him one day so we can jam again.
Recently I created Best Pick Guitar Teaching Agency to help match up students looking for guitar lessons with a local guitar teacher who’s right for them.
So, of course if you are here on this site and looking for guitar lessons either for yourself, your child, a partner or a friend, then please get in touch with me through the contact form, or give me a call on Freephone 0800 5300 187 and we’ll help you find a guitar teacher who’s right for you in your local area.
Many Thanks
