MUD WRESTLING AT GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL 2007

Listening to live music is a favourite pastime in Britain; just think T in the Park, Reading and Leeds, V Festival, Creamfields et al. Even though these festivals attract huge crowds from all over the country (and further afield), it’s interesting to consider which bands attract the largest crowds, and why.

This infographic from Get Me In! was based on a competition held in September asking people to submit their “ultimate” festival line-up for a chance to win £1,000 to spend on festival tickets.

More than 12.5k votes later and perhaps you’ll be relieved to hear Nicki Minaj didn’t win!

Out of the Top 20 artists’ category, only one quarter were formed after the year 2000, and the majority – including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix – were all performing in the 1960s and 1970s, implying that many people still have a soft spot for the past.

And the winner? One of Britain’s most iconic rock bands: Queen, formed in 1971 and originally consisting of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor.
